Don’t take venture capital money unless you have no choice. Almost all of them will f ck you over.
In 2015 I finally divested myself of all partners and investors and my life changed. I could finally do my job.
In this video there are 3 stories:
- Why I tore up the £1.1m investment contract from 3i
- How a Venture Capital investor tried to abuse a convertible loan to take control of the company
- How an angel investor’s ego destroyed a thriving company (and I lost everything).
NEVER take investment if you have ANY other alternative. It’s been nothing but deadly for every business I’ve had investors in.
If I could go back and do it all again, I’d find another way, not using other people’s money. I’d rather risk everything I have of my own (and keep 100% of the upside and control) than ever have idiot investors who are too stupid to realise they’re letting their egos govern their decisions.
Remember this: VC investors can afford to lose the money they’re investing – so they will (often) make decisions based on seizing control, not on supporting start ups.
There are good investors out there, but I only ever met 2 (out of hundreds)
